The Sanja Matsuri is one of Tokyo’s largest and most iconic festivals, taking place annually around the third Saturday of May in Asakusa.
This traditional festival draws nearly 1.8 million visitors over the course of three days.

The festival kicks off with a spectacular Grand Procession featuring traditional performing arts and intangible cultural heritage performances.
On the second day, about 100 mikoshi (portable shrines) from local neighborhoods come together and make a lively procession through the streets.
The festival comes to a close on the final day as three large mikoshi make their way through the town and return to the shrine in the ceremonial finale known as Miyairi.

This is when Asakusa comes alive with vibrant energy.
After walking through the lively streets, taking time to unwind in a calm, relaxing space is also one of the simple pleasures of this season.
