Tokyo’s biggest festival “Sanja Matsuri”
The Sanja Festival, one of Tokyo’s biggest festivals, is held over three days on the third weekend of May, and about 2 million people turn out around Asakusa over the weekend.

The Sanja Festival is characterized by the parade of MIKOSHI on the second and third days of the festival. On the second day, about 100 MIKOSHI are brought out from the towns surrounding Asakusa Shrine and headed towards Shrine. On the third day, three large MIKOSHI depart from Asakusa Shrine and go around the town.

In both cases, the highlight is the sight of the large number of bearers wearing festival costumes carrying the MIKOSHI with great force.
It is said that Asakusa is at its most lively during the year, and it is one of the typical early summer events in Tokyo.
